General Information
FCU faculty, staff, students and others approved by the Library
to have borrowing privileges may borrow library materials by presenting
their university ID card.
Borrowing Privileges
For full-time faculty and staff
Borrowers have a loan limit of 30 items, including books and
audio-visual (A/V)
materials. Please note that the maximum number of A/V items that
can be loaned at
any one time is 10. Books may be borrowed for 30 days; A/V materials
may be
borrowed for 7 days. Unless reserved by another borrower, A/V materials
may be
renewed once and books may be renewed 3 times.
For part-time faculty and staff, graduate students,
graduate-students-to-
be,full-time assistants, research assistants and visiting faculty
Borrowers have a loan limit of 20 items, including books and
A/V materials. Please
note that the maximum number of AV items that can be loaned at
any one time is 5.
Books may be borrowed for 30 days; A/V materials may be borrowed
for 7 days.
Unless reserved by another borrower, A/V materials may be renewed
once and books may be renewed twice.
For undergraduates
Borrowers have a loan limit of 15 items, including books and
A/V materials. Please
note that the maximum number of A/V items that can be loaned at
any one time is 5.
Books may be borrowed for 14 days; A/V materials may be borrowed
for 5 days.
Unless reserved by another borrower, items may be renewed once.
Non-circulating Materials
Reference collection, journals, newspapers, microfilms and special
collections
generally do not circulate.
Audio-Visual Materials In-Library Use
1. Patrons can view A/V materials in the Library. Each session
is three hours and limited
to one item. Only when the item is returned, may a patron borrow
another item.
2. Viewing of personal A/V materials in the Library is prohibited.
3. Materials must not be copied. Patrons must conform to copyright
regulations.
Online Reservation System
Patrons can reserve materials online if they have been borrowed
by someone else. Patrons can place up to five requests for items
which are out on loan. The Library will send a notice by e-mail
once the reserved items have been checked in. Books will be held
for 5 days; A/V materials will be held for 2 days.
Reservation rights will be interrupted for one semester if a patron
has reserved but not checked out items up to three times.
Reserved Books
Reserved books are held at the Circulation Desk and can only be
used in the Library. Patrons can borrow no more than two items with
valid ID and registration. The loan period is two hours. Reserved
items may be renewed once if there are no holds.
Return of Library Materials
Library materials must be returned on or before the date and/or
time due. Books should be checked in at the Circulation Disk on
the 1st floor; A/V materials should be checked in at the Multi-Media
Desk on the 3rd floor. Please note that materials borrowed from
the Architecture and Urban Planning Library should be checked in
at the desk of the Architecture and Urban Planning Library.
Overdue Fines
Fines are required for overdue items. Unpaid fines will result
in suspension of borrowing privileges and graduation procedures.
1 .For Books:
The charge for each overdue book is NT$5 per day. The maximum
overdue fine is
NT$500.
2. For A/V Materials:
The charge for each overdue item is NT$10 per day. The maximum
overdue fine is
NT$1,000.
3 .For Reserved Books:
The charge for each overdue book is NT$5 per hour.
Lost or Damaged Items
Borrowers should report lost materials to the Library immediately.
The Library has the right to claim compensation or to suspend borrowing
privileges for lost or damaged materials.
1. For Books:
If an item is marked, damaged or lost, borrowers are liable for
compensation to
repair or replace the item according to the following criteria:
(1) Borrowers may replace a lost book with a book of the same
edition. If there is a
later edition available, this edition will be acceptable as a
replacement.
(2) If borrowers cannot acquire the same book, they may replace
the lost item with
a similar book of the latest edition, according to the following
guidelines:
a. Not included in the library collection
b. Legal copyright issues are resolved
c. The edition and price is not earlier or lower.
d. If the original book was in hardcover, the replacement should
be
hardcover as well.
(3) Compensation for books with no published price will
be estimated by page
number. Publication in Taiwan and Mainland China is estimated at NT$5 per
page; foreign publication is estimated at NT$10 per page.
(4) If the lost volume is one of a series and cannot be
bought separately, borrowers
must pay for the entire series.
(5) If the lost item is out of print or a rare book, compensation
will be determined by
the Library.
(6) If the loss of or damage to books is caused by fire or flood,
the borrower is
responsible for one-third of the value of the lost or damaged
item.
2. For A/V Materials:
If an item is damaged or lost, borrowers can replace it with an
identical one. If
borrowers cannot acquire an identical item, double payment is required.
3.For wireless network interface cards:
If a wireless network interface card does not work properly, borrowers
should
replace it with a new one of the same brand and same or higher
grade.
Borrower Responsibilities
Borrowers who lend their university ID card to others will have
their borrowing privileges suspended for one semester. All materials
borrowed from the Libraries are subject to recall. Faculty, staff
and students should pay their fines before leaving the university.
Civil and Hydraulic Engineering Library Materials
Materials in the Civil and Hydraulic Engineering Library are for
in-library use only. In special circumstances, patrons can borrow
materials with valid ID and registration. The loan period is one
hour, and the overdue fine is NT$5 per 30 minutes. Borrowers should
return items to the desk of the Civil and Hydraulic Engineering
Library.
